I've Embraced My Inner Snotty Scotty

I've always had a hard time deciding on a screen name. This goes all the way back to the early days of AOL (when I say early days of AOL I mean before AOL had a portal to the web). The screen name was also your email. This was a big decision because people usually had only one email account and the trend seemed to focus on the anonymity of the internet unlike today when having yourname@your.com is common for an email address. Lacking a lot of creativity back than my screen name usually was a variation of my name; gscotto - how boring is that? The sad thing is that I've needed to add screen names as I've started my journey and you guessed it, I've resorted to the old gscotto on more than one occasion.

I had thought about using Snotty Scotty as my main screen name but I was afraid that people might be offended by this or think that it is just plain dumb (and gscotto is plain dumb?). After sharing my journey on my blog I've found that I have embraced my inner Snotty Scotty. Snotty Scotty can be blunt and say how he feels about some peoples voices here in my journey or in my squidoo lens. Could gscotto be blunt like this? No, gscotto would be afraid he'd offend someone or get in trouble.

So you have been warned, I've fully embraced my inner Snotty Scotty and its hard to say where this will lead to as I continue my journey.

I took my own advice and wrote about what I know

Last week I talked about how I was afraid that I had written two squidoo lenses about my bum marketing plan. I was afraid that I hadn't added any value to the internet as a whole. I felt I had just written a lens or two with some keywords thrown in and some links to affiliates I wanted to promote. This led to a third squidoo lens where I talked about writing about what you know,

I took my own advice today and wrote my latest lens about my learning about cordless drill drivers and knowing what the difference between Lithium-ion batteries and Ni-cad batteries were. Also, I shared what I feel are key features to look at as you do a cordless drill driver comparison.

I feel better about this latest lens because I learned something about a tool purchase I made and I feel that what I learned will also help others as they do their Christmas shopping for their favorite handyman (or handy woman) for the right cordless drill driver.

Do I know what I'm writing about?

I published two squidoo lens this week about My Bum Marketing Plan. My first lens was an overview about the differant areas of Bum Marketing that I am familiar with. The second lens was My Bum Marketing Plan (Part 1: Writing Effective Articles Online)

After publishing these and doing some reflecting (added by reading forums on Wealthy Affiliate and of all places ClickBank) I began to wonder if my Bum Marketing lenses had ant true value or if they were just a lame attempt to fill up space and promote affiliate links and try to look like a proven affiliate master.

Today I decided to publish another squidoo lens but this time I decided I wouldn't do any keyword research, I wouldn't even have any hint of an outline. I would just type writing and see where it ended up. This lens, Writing a Lens about what you know was the result.

Right now I feel real good about the results and feel I ended up with some helpful content (helpful not just to my readers) but also helpful to me as I continue on Snotty Scotty's Journey.

Who is Joel Broughton? (Man his voice is annoying)

I was surfing Traffic Exchanges the other day and every so often I'd hear "Hi Joel Broughton here with the New Rich Report...". For some reason this greeting really grates on me. Every time I here this I start clicking faster so I can shut him up (it is really bad when he is open in more than one window).

I know, if his voice is so annoying why don't I just turn my speakers off; the main reason I keep my speakers on is because my favorite Traffic Exchange is Tezak Traffic Power. Tezak Traffic Power has bonus credits every 15 pages surfed and there is an audio clue when the bonus page appears so I guess I'll have to put up with Joel's (Hi this is Joel Broughton...). So why is this my favorite TE? Because of the bonus structure? Because of all the traffic it is driving to my sites? No, none of these, I like Tezak Traffic Power because it combines space aliens and the Three Amigos; what more can you want?

Back to Joel, I kept ignoring The New Rich Report and wasn't interested in what it had to offer. One day I was readying the forums in one of the affiliates (Acme-People-Search.com) I am promoting and read that other marketers were using the New Rich Report to promote their niche search engine. I went ahead and signed up for the New Rich Report and found out what it is all about. I found resources in the NRR back office for promoting this program and found that resources could also be used to promote anything you want on line.

To cut a long story short my story about Joel Broughton's "New Rich Report" illustrates my point to keep your eyes and ears open for information on how to market more effectively. You never know where you will gain valuable resources, they may even come from something that is a major annoyance to you.

Read more about how the New Rich Report and traffic exchanges play a part in My Bum Marketing Plan on Squidoo.

I was laid off in August (and February)

I started my career in printing in the mid 80's as a stripper. No, this wasn't some sort of exotic dancer. This was the person who took art boards and photos, shot them on a process camera and stripped them in position so that could be burned to a printing plate and the plates could be hung on a press and stuff was printed and this stuff was sent off as direct mail and this stuff was thrown out. Basically you could say a stripper did everything Adobe Creative suite does now but back then it was fun because it took more skill than just pushing a mouse around. believe me, I do know about pushing a mouse around and using Adobe Creative suite.

Lets see, where was I when I started on my rant? Oh yeah, I was a stripper when printing was fun then Adobe, Apple and Quark came around and printing started to be unfun because I spent all my time pushing a mouse around.

I had my mid life crisis and moved clear across the country and left a job I had for 12 years (I had seniority) and started working for another printing company where I didn't have seniority.

Then came the financial melt down of '08 and '09 and guess what, Snotty Scotty got laid off in February. Don't fret, after just one month on the street my former employer was again my employer. Well maybe you should fret because after just an short time I was again laid off.

I'm hoping this lay off will end up being a good thing because I really am ready to put my printing career behind me. I've been polishing my resume and trying to find a new career to go into. I've even tried to use some of my experience looking for job to help other job seekers. I even wrote a squidoo lens about using a job fair to your advantage.

So, I guess you could say Snotty Scotty's journey is to discover what lies ahead without a career in printing.
